What Are the Regions of the World?
The world is divided into five continental regions, Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania and the Americas, based on the classification scheme of the United Nations. These macro geographical features are further divided into several sub-regions.
The sub-regions in Asia include Eastern Asia, Southern Asia, South-Eastern Asia, Central Asia and Western Asia, while Europe comprises Western Europe, Southern Europe, Northern Europe and Eastern Europe. African sub-regions are Eastern Africa, Western Africa, Southern Africa, Middle Africa and Northern Africa. The Americas are made up of North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, which constitutes South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Oceania, meanwhile, is divided into four sub-groups: Australia and New Zealand, Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia.
