The National Passport Information Center is a call center that answers questions and provides information about the passport application process, forms, required documents, fees, where to apply and any other related information. As of 2015, the NPIC can be reached by phone at 1-877-487-2778 or 1-888-874-7793, for the hearing impaired.
The NPIC provides automated passport information 24 hours a day, but customer service representatives are available Monday to Friday, between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. Eastern Time. The NPIC can also be reached by email at NPIC@state.gov.
The NPIC was created by the U.S. Department of State Passport Agency to handle an increasing number of calls when the demand for passports rose in the 1990s.
