Full Answer

Members of the Platinum Delta SkyMiles credit card receive a Companion Certificate for the main cabin every year upon renewal of the card. As of 2015, the annual fee for this credit card is $195. Members of the Delta Reserve credit card receive a main cabin or first class Companion Certificate every year upon renewal. The annual membership fee for the Delta Reserve card is $450. Both credit cards are offered through American Express.

Companion Certificates automatically post to a customer's SkyMiles account under the My Wallet category. These tickets are valid on Delta, Delta Connection carrier and Delta Shuttle flights within the 48 contiguous United States. The card holder must purchase an adult round-trip fare to use the companion ticket. Companion tickets also carry a fee for applicable government-imposed taxes.

To redeem the Companion Certificate, a member must log on via the Delta website, click on Credits and Certificates under My Wallet and select the Companion Certificate. The companion ticket must be used at the same time, for the same flight and same class of travel as the purchased ticket.
