According the Texas House of Representatives, while rendering the salute to the Texas flag a person should stand erect, face the flag and hold her right hand over her heart. The Texas flag uses the same salute as the American flag.
The Third Congress of the Republic of Texas adopted the Texas flag in 1839. Colors in the Texas flag use red to represent courage, white for liberty and blue for loyalty. When Texas became the 28th state of the Union in 1845, its national flag became the state flag. It's the only flag of an American state that previously served as the flag to a recognized independent country.
