For much of the 20th century, the Czech Republic and one of its neighboring nations, Slovakia, were a single country called Czechoslovakia. Following the fall of communism, Prague became a popular stop for tourists as well as a destination for expatriates from other European nations and the United States. Prague is known for its picturesque Old Town area and castle and is often compared to Paris. It was also the home of author Franz Kafka.
