Portland is located near the junction of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers in northwestern Oregon, 70 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Behind Seattle and Vancouver, the city is the third most populated in the Pacific Northwest.
The seat of Multnomah County, Portland encompasses roughly 133 square miles and has an estimated population of just more than 600,000 as of 2013. The greater Portland area is home to more than 1,200 technology companies, earning the area the nickname of "Silicon Forest." Computer components maker Intel is the largest employer in the region, providing more than 15,000 jobs. Portland also boasts at least 60 breweries, more than any other city in the world.
