Formed by Shasta Dam, Shasta Lake in Shasta County provides diverse fishing that includes species such as king salmon, trout, bass and sunfish. Fishing at Shasta Lake occurs year-round.
Ranked second in the Bassmaster top 100 lakes list in 2014, Clear Lake in Lake County remains popular for bass fishing and also contains crappie, catfish and other species. Clear Lake ranks as the largest natural freshwater lake in the state.
Also making the Bassmaster top 100 lakes list in 2014, Lake Oroville in Butte County contains four types of bass along with other fishable species. In addition to open fishing, the lake hosts regular fishing tournaments.
Dixon Lake in the city of Escondido, just outside of San Diego, offers diverse species, including trout and bass. The city of Escondido stocks the lake with trout and holds an annual trout fishing derby.
