As of 2015, Allegiant Air flies from the MidAmerica St. Louis Airport to Orlando/Sanford, Florida, and Tampa Bay, Florida. Flights to Orlando/Sanford run Thursday and Sunday, while flights into Tampa Bay operate Mondays and Fridays. MidAmerica St. Louis Airport is roughly 5 miles north of Mascoutah, Illinois.
Passengers flying into the Orlando/Sanford Airport are within easy reach of the Disney World theme parks, Universal Studios and Port Canaveral. The latter is one of the busiest cruise ports in Florida. Orlando/Sanford is also the closest airport to Daytona Beach, home to Daytona International Speedway and the rides and restaurants on Daytona Beach Pier.
The Tampa Bay Airport, on the western side of Florida, is close to the beaches and the nightlife in Tampa's downtown core. It is also close to St. Petersburg, known for its Caribbean-facing beaches and sports fishing industry. The Tampa Bay Rays, part of the American League East, also plays at Tropicana Field in downtown St. Petersburg.
Clearwater is also nearby, home to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. The movie "Dolphin Tale" was filmed on site. The city has its own Dolphin Trail, roughly 115 dolphin statues spread around the area. Each one is individually decorated by local artists and appears on the Dolphin Trail map. Visitors walk, bike or drive on their dolphin-spotting mission.
