Peter the Great is famous for his efforts to make Russia a great nation. He created new administrative systems and territorial divisions to enhance governance throughout Russia.

Born in Moscow in 1672, Peter the Great became the overall leader of Russia after the death of his brother, Ivan V. Russia was less developed compared to European countries at the time because it had rejected Westernization. Peter the Great created a stable navy and organized the country's army in line with Western standards. He enlisted the services of experts to teach the people about technology. Peter is also know for establishing the first newspaper in Russia. He expanded the borders of Russia through wars with Turkey and Sweden.
