People Express Airlines has been defunct since January 22, 2015, when the company was evicted from its headquarters at Newport News International Airport in Virginia. The airline initially suspended service after an aircraft was damaged by a ground vehicle while its other plane required an engine change.
People Express Airlines only functioned from late June 2014 until September 2014, when the initial suspension of service occurred. The financial problems that People Express ran into were caused by the airline's inability to pay $96,000 in passenger fees to Newport News International Airport to evict the airline from the terminal in November 2014. People Express' failure to pay utility bills gave the airport reason to evict the airline from their offices at the airport as well.
