On What Peninsula Is Spain Located?

Spain is located on the Iberian Peninsula, also known as Iberia, located in southwest Europe. Spain covers the majority of the landmass, taking up 195,182 of the 220,000 square miles that make up the peninsula.

The Iberian Peninsula consists of Spain, Portugal, Andorra, the British territory of Gibraltar, and part of southern France. The area is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, which are connected by the Strait of Gibraltar, on the southern coast of Gibraltar and Spain. The continent of Africa lies south of the Iberian Peninsula and is as close as five miles at some points. The peninsula is separated from France and the rest of Europe to the north by the Pyrenees mountain range.
