Virginia Railway Express and Amtrak offer service to a number of cities throughout Virginia. While many Virginia rail stations are close to Washington, D.C., trains also serve key cities elsewhere in the state.
Travelers interested in a short trip may consider taking a ride on the Virginia Railway Express service. One route covers the areas west of Washington, D.C. including Arlington, Manassas and Broad Run. Another line goes from Washington, D.C. to southern points such as Lorton, Quantico and Fredericksburg.
For longer trips, Amtrak's Virginia services offer a number of options. One Amtrak route connects Lynchburg, Charlottesville and intermediate points to Washington, D.C. while other routes serve eastern Virginia cities such as Richmond, Norfolk and Newport News.
