As of 2015, the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority provides travelers with a comprehensive set of maps through its On The Go application, accessible on any smartphone browser. The service offers both regular service and late-night service subway maps to the public through its website.
MTA system maps are available on any mobile device with a web browser equipped with Adobe Reader, including Android devices, iPhones and iPads. On The Go provides travelers with access to maps, the current service status of all relevant public transportation, subway schedules and a trip planner module. Users of MTA's On The Go web application can also use the service to view the MTA's planned subway construction schedule and plan trips around the possibility of line closures.
In addition to comprehensive subway maps, the MTA also provides bus route information for the five major New York boroughs: Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. Travelers in need of MetroCards can consult the web application to find the nearest MetroCard Merchant locations. The MTA updates its web application with planned service changes and bus schedules for travelers in New York City. The MTA also provides rail information for the Long Island Railroad, the Metro-North Railroad and the Staten Island railway through the web application.
