Northbrook is a city located within Cook County, Illinois. Northbrook is about 25 miles outside of the city of Chicago. As of 2015, the city is roughly 13 square miles and has a population of slightly more than 33,000 people.
In 1833, the Potawatomi tribe sold their tribal lands in the region that now encompasses Northbrook to the first settlers expanding into the territory. In the 1870s, the Northbrook area was mostly farmland, alongside a few brickyards. In 1901, the area chose to incorporate itself as Shermerville. Residents changed the name of the city to Northrbook in 1923. The town remained quite small until World War II, when builders erected the first subdivisions, and the population rapidly expanded.
