Niagara Falls is in western New York on the Niagara River, which forms the border between the United States and Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. It is approximately 20 miles from Buffalo, New York. Niagara Falls has two international border crossings that connect the two countries: Whirlpool Bridge and Rainbow Bridge.
There are three waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls. The American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are located in the United States, and the Canadian Falls, also known as Horseshoe, is located in Ontario. The approximate height of the American Falls ranges from 168 to 194 feet. For the Canadian Falls, this range is between 158 and 184 feet. The water that forms Niagara Falls originates from four of the Great Lakes: Michigan, Huron, Superior and Erie.
