When most people think of Nevada, the first image that comes to mind is a Las Vegas or Reno casino. Tourists from all over the world flock to the state to partake in gambling and live entertainment shows. However, there is another side of Nevada that is quieter, but no less interesting.
The Great Basin National Park, located in Baker, spans 77,000 acres between the Sierra Nevada and Wasatch Mountains. The park is home to wildlife such as bighorn sheep and vegetation such as sturdy desert pine trees that are able to thrive in spite of the intense heat and dry terrain. Tourists are welcome to explore the Lehman Caves, hike trails, camp and enjoy the park's many natural wonders.
The Hoover Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric-powered dams in the world, is another famous point of interest. The dam is located in Boulder City, which is 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas.Learn more about The West
