What Is the National Sport of Puerto Rico?

The national sport of Puerto Rico is baseball, known to the locals as "beisbol." It is popularly played in the cities and towns of Arecibo, Bayamon, Manati, San Juan and Santurce, Ponce and the fishing harbor of Mayaguez.

Puerto Rico, located in the Caribbean, is a dependency of the United States Commonwealth. Some Puerto Rican baseball players who have played for Major League Baseball are Hiram Bithorn, Ivan Rodriguez, Carlos Beltran, Felipe Lopez, Javy Lopez, Orlando Cepeda and Roberto Clemente. It is a yearly tradition on the island to host an all-star baseball game with its closest rival, the Dominican Republic.
