Soccer has a long history as a sport, with the base of it having existed for as long as people had an open space to kick around a ball. Soccer as a national sport has spread across many countries, with the normalization of the name “football” encouraged by the International Federation of Association Football, or FIFA, to refer to a standardized set of rules.
