The national average price of gas in 2014 was $3.34 per gallon, according to AAA. This was 15 cents cheaper than the previous year, when the average price was $3.49 per gallon. The average price for regular gas was $3.358 per gallon. Midgrade prices averaged $3.539, and premium grade gas averaged $3.71 per gallon. The average gas prices for 2014 were lower for conventional grades of gas than reformulated grades. The 2014 national average was lower than the national average in 2013, 2012 and 2011. As of July 16, 2015, the average price for regular gas is $2.772 per gallon. A week prior the average gas price for regular grade was $2.756; a month prior the average was $2.803 per gallon.
In 2014, consumers paid the most for gas on April 28, with the daily national average at $3.70 per gallon. Gas prices plummeted at the end of the year, and consumers paid the least for gas on December 31, when the lowest daily national average was $2.26 per gallon.
