Mesopotamia refers to the ancient land that was located in the eastern Mediterranean region. This area of land was bounded by the Zagros Mountains in the northeast and was the Arabian Plateau in the southeast.
Mesopotamia was located in modern day Iraq. It also was found in portions of modern day Iran, Turkey and Syria. The region of land was known as a collection of many different cultures who were all bonded by their religion and their attitudes toward women. All of the cultures living in the area spoke different languages and had many different customs. The area was once thought as of containing one single civilization but modern day historians look at the region as having numerous empires and civilizations, as of 2014.
