As of 2014, approximately 545 million people speak Hindi in India. Roughly, 425 million of them speak Hindi as a first language, and 120 million speak it as a second language.
Hindi and English are the official languages of India. However, most people in India speak Hindi as a first language. Nearly 125 million people in India speak English as well as Hindi.
Hindi is the primary language of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Jharkhand and other Indian states. Other Indian languages include Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil and Urdu. Outside of India, Hindi is spoken in Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad and Nepal.
