Maldives is located just north of the equator in the Indian Ocean near the Arabian Sea. It is southwest of India and lies between Minicoy Island and the Chagos archipelago.

Maldives sits at the top of the Chagos-Maldives-Laccadive Ridge, a submarine mountain range.
