Coal and petroleum production are the top products produced in Wyoming. They represent nearly 65 percent of all output produced in the state. Chemicals are the second largest product produced in Wyoming, with fabricated metals ranking third.
Wyoming is second from the bottom when it comes to states with a heavy manufacturing footprint. Hawaii is the state with the fewest manufacturing jobs. Rounding out the bottom five are Maryland, Nevada and New Mexico.
The manufacturing sector in Wyoming only employs 3.1 percent of the total workforce. However, the compensation in the manufacturing sector is nearly 50 percent higher than that of other industries in the state.
