To look up railway ticket availability on Indian Railways, visit Indianrail.gov.in, and click on the Availability at Major Stations link. Click on the station name to see an availability chart for each of the departing trains. Under each date heading, look for the alphanumeric code, and compare it to the key at the bottom of the chart to see the availability. The AV code indicates that seats are available; NR means that there is no room.
To see the availability for trains departing in the next four hours, click on Current Booking Availability, and enter the station name. Click on Train Berth Availability, and fill out the form to see the availability of sleeper berths. Ticket availability information on the Indian Railways website applies only to reserved seating.
Some Indian Railways trains departing from Mumbai offer mobile ticketing for unreserved spots. To purchase mobile tickets, click on the Mobile Ticketing Services link, and follow the prompts to visit the UTS Mobile Ticketing website. Follow the instructions to sign up for the service and book tickets.
