The Amazon River begins in the Peruvian Andes and flows east until it ends at the Atlantic Ocean. It is the second longest river after the Nile and flows through the countries of Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Guyana and Ecuador.

The Amazon River is 4,000 miles long and is up to 6 miles wide in some areas. During rainy season, it can reach to 120 miles in width. The river provides about twenty percent of the fresh water found in the oceans. The city of Manaus in Brazil is the largest city found on the Amazon. However, most of the river runs through rainforests instead of urban areas.
