According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, a level 2 snow emergency in Indiana means only essential travel is allowed. The IDHS suggests that essential travel includes but is not limited to travel between home and work or emergency situations.

If caught in a vehicle outside during a snow emergency, the IDHS offers suggestions for staying safe. The most important step in preparing for this situation is investing in a winter emergency kit. Some supplies that should be in this kit include blankets, a flashlight, jumper cables, flares, bottled water, an ice scraper, a first-aid kit, a steel shovel and nonperishable, high-energy foods.
