VIA Rail offers the Ottawa Two-Night Nations Capital Getaway from London, Toronto or Windsor, Ontario. As of 2015, this is the only Ottawa vacation package offered. The Ottawa Two-Night Tour includes round-trip rail tickets and a hotel stay in downtown Ottawa. Prices are based on double occupancy, but single rates are also available. Clients tour the city on their own.
Suggested sites to see include the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which goes through the heart of Ottawa before meeting up with the Ottawa River locks. During warmer weather, the canal attracts water sport enthusiasts. In winter, the canal freezes over, becoming a well-used skating rink. Cyclists find nearly 200 miles of bike paths throughout the city and neighboring parks and gardens, including some that rim the canal.
Parliament Hill, the seat of Canada's government, is another popular site, as are the various museums around town. During the warmer months, the ByWard Market, a feature in Ottawa since 1827, offers local produce, meats and handicrafts.
Vacation packages departing from Ottawa include the Two-Night Montreal Restaurant Tour, the Three-Night A Moment in Time Tour that visits both Montreal and Quebec City, and the Two-Night Escape to Montreal. A popular trend is to book a few nights in Ottawa before taking one of the above vacation packages.
