Crabbing, zip lining, bumper boats and ferry rides are among the activities that Orange Beach, Alabama, offers to families with children. The community's proximity to the ocean also means stretches of beach on which the family can relax and play.
Crabs thrive on the beaches around Orange Beach, especially at the nearby Gulf State Park Pier, providing crabbing opportunities for the entire family. Those who want to pursue the crustaceans can purchase a saltwater fishing license. Each angler is allowed a maximum of one crab basket.
Kids can engage in games of laser tag and mini golf, ride bumper boats, climb a rock wall and witness the eruption of a five-story volcano at Adventure Island. At Sharky's Family Adventure Park they can engage themselves in a zip line and three high-rope courses. There is even a course for younger children called "Sky Tykes."
Families that want to head out onto the water can take the Mobile Bay Ferry to Dauphin Island, giving kids the chance to see wild dolphins. More animal viewing opportunities exist in the neighboring town of Gulf Coast's zoo. The zoo boasts more than 500 animals, in addition to a petting zoo, reptile house, seasonal animal shows and an aviary. Among the animals that call the park home are lions, bears and monkeys.
