The Kalahari Desert is a famous desert located in Southern Africa. The desert occupies most of the land of several countries, including Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.
The desert also reaches to parts of Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe and is surrounded by the Kalahari Basin. Famous landmarks found in the Kalahari include Botswana’s Gemsbok National Park, Chobe National Park and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, which is the second largest game reserve in the world. Known as a semi-desert, the Kalahari is half desert and half plateau. It supports more animal and plant life than a true desert, such as the Namib Desert located to the west.
