Jet Blue allows one free checked bag per customer with maximum overall dimensions of 62 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. Additional checked bags are subject to fees, as of 2015.
The overall dimensions of a piece of luggage are calculated by adding the length, width and height. If the total is more than 62 inches, the traveler pays an additional fee. Baggage with dimensions larger than 80 inches are not allowed on Jet Blue flights.
Overweight baggage above 50 pounds also costs more. Jet Blue has a weight cap of 99 pounds for each piece of checked baggage.
Travelers must check baggage at least 30 minutes before the departure time on domestic flights. International flights require travelers to check bags at least 60 minutes ahead of time. Customers cannot check baggage more than six hours before the flight leaves. The Aviation and Transportation Security Act requires travelers to check their own bags.
Jet Blue also allows customers one personal item plus a carry-on bag. Personal items include computers, purses or briefcases. The maximum size for carry-on bags to fit in the overhead compartments on Jet Blue flights is 18 inches long, 15 inches wide and 8 inches high.
