Honolulu is on the island of Oahu. The entire island forms Honolulu County and falls under the jurisdiction of the mayor of Honolulu. Honolulu is the state capital and most populous city of Hawaii.
Honolulu is a popular tourist destination, particularly for visitors participating in its famous surfing and golfing activities; its yearly tourism income is $10 billion. Honolulu is also home to the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor, which is both an active deep-water base and a historical memorial of World War II.
Due to Honolulu's location, Japan, South Korea and Australia maintain consulates there in addition to those located on the U.S. mainland.
