Pearl Harbor is a natural harbor located on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. The exact location of the harbor is in Central Oahu, a short drive from the Waikiki. Once a military harbor, the location is home to five historic sites, including the USS Arizona Memorial, as of 2014.
During World War II, Pearl Harbor was the site of a Japanese attack on the United States Navy which left 2,390 dead. The attack also served as the catalyst for the active entry of the United States into the war on the side of the Allies. The harbor received its name from pearl oysters that were once harvested under its waters.
