The island of Curacao is located in the southern Caribbean sea about forty miles north of the Venezuelean coast. This country includes the main island as well as the uninhabited island of Klein Curacao. The country's population is 150,000 as of 2015.
Tourism plays a major role in the economy of Curacao, but the island is not as reliant on tourism as other Caribbean countries. However, Curacao leads the Caribbean in cruise tourism growth with 610,186 cruise passengers in 2013, a 41.4 percent increase over the prior year. Many tourists come from the Netherlands and South America, as well as the United States.
