Its official language is English although recognized languages spoken in the country include Scots, Irish, Cornish, Welsh, Ulster-Scots and Scottish Gaelic.

The government of the United Kingdom is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy, with a monarch serving as head of state and an elected prime minister serving as the head of government. The country had three major political parties as of 2010, which are the Labour Party, the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democrat Party.
