For women's casual wear that can be worn around the ship and on excursions, walking shorts, t-shirts, swimsuit cover ups, jeans and sundresses are appropriate. Most cruise ships delegate different styles of attire on different evenings after 6 p.m., ranging from casual to semi-formal and formal. For a seven-day cruise, women often pack two formal outfits and several resort-style options, such as flowing dresses or silky pant suits.
Men generally wear khakis and a sports jacket, paired with a polo shirt or nice t-shirt. Shorts are acceptable, as are jeans and casual khakis. Plan on a suit and tie with coordinating shoes for formal evenings, although a tuxedo is acceptable, too. Many ships offer tux rentals on board. Everyone should pack a sweater, hat, sunglasses and shoes.
Small backpacks are helpful for transporting items such as cameras, sun block and water bottles around the ship and on shore.
