Important locations in Vietnam include its largest city Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon; major port city Da Nang; northern population center Hanoi; and Mekong Delta hub Can Tho. Halong Bay and Hoi An are major tourist destinations on Vietnam's coastline.
Nha Trang is also a popular tourist stop due to its pristine beaches, undeniable Vietnamese character and beautiful array of over twenty islands. Phu Quoc is the largest island in Vietnamese territory and is popular among tourists for its beaches, fishing industry and black pepper manufacturers. There are also many preserved war sites from the country's conflicts in the 1960s and 70s, including the Vinh Moc tunnels in central Vietnam and the city of Dien Bien Phu.
