Google Street View was first introduced on May 25th, 2007 in the United States. The technology is made possible by a fleet of cars that have a high-definition panoramic camera rig mounted to the roof that continuously photographs the surroundings of the vehicle as it drives.
The photographs obtained from the Street View cars are stitched together by the Google Maps and Google Earth teams to create seamless imagery of cities and towns around the world that are fully explorable using built-in navigation controls. Using these controls, the end user can navigate forward and backward up and down a street and in some cases jump from the street to inside of major attractions utilizing Photo Sphere technology.
Google has also used Street View to photograph amusement parks, including Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. It is possible to use Google Maps to fully explore the walkways of the Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure parks as well as the City Walk concourse area connecting the two parks.Learn more about Maps & Cartography
