As of 2015, the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, North Carolina, is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. from April until October. From November until March, the park is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The park is open every day of the year except for Christmas Day.
The North Carolina Zoo encompasses close to 2,000 acres, and it is about 75 miles south of Raleigh. It is one of only two parks owned by the state government in the United States. There are more than 1,600 animals in the zoo, with most of them coming from North America and Africa.
