The Holy Land refers to the area located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River, especially the area surrounding Jerusalem. The term refers to the fact that this region contains sites of religious significance in Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Bahá'í.
Although the Holy Land doesn't have defined boundaries, many people consider it to include Israel, the Palestinian territories, Jordan, the Sinai Peninsula and south Syria. Many sites in the Holy Land are destinations for religious pilgrims visiting the region. These destinations include Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Hebron, Tiberias, Mount Moriah, Mecca, Acre, Haifa, Mount Carmel and many other locations referred to in both the Old and New Testaments.
