It is in the top one hundred worldwide in terms of population (77th, with a population of 10.8 million) and land area (97th, with an area of 50,000 square miles). Greece also has other territories, mostly islands, including the larger island of Cyprus, which lies in the Mediterranean directly to the south of Greece.
