The Magnificent Mile, Oak Street and River North are some good places to shop in Chicago. Each shopping area has stores, shops and malls offering a wide variety of merchandise, including designer apparel, jewelry, art, home decor and specialty stores.
The Magnificent Mile stretches for eight blocks of Michigan Avenue north of the Chicago River and features over 500 stores and 200 restaurants, as of 2015. Anchored by the eight-story Water Tower Place mall and the seven-story The 900 Shops luxury mall, the street is lined with stores, including Crate & Barrel, Chanel, Luis Vuitton, Neiman Marcus and Burberry.
Oak Street features smaller, more exclusive and typically more expensive shops, including Italian shoemaker Tod's, Barney's of New York, Hermes of Paris and Pratesi. River North is an arts district with many galleries to shop for art and home decor as well as interior designs at the Merchandise Mart, the world's largest commercial building.
