Germany is located in the west central portion of the European continent. The country's coastline extends 2,389 kilometers and borders the North Sea on its northwest portion and the Baltic Sea to the north. Germany's land boundary extends 3,790 kilometers and encloses a total land area of 357,022 square kilometers.
Germany borders nine European countries. To the north, the country is bordered by Denmark, while on the east it borders Poland and the Czech Republic. Germany's southern borders abut those of Austria and Switzerland. To the west are Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, while France lies to the southwest.
