As of 2015, there are over 330 destinations throughout 54 countries around the world with service from American Airlines. The airlines has approximately 6,700 flights per day, carrying around 530,704 travellers each day.
The airline has several programs, including frequent flyer miles, discounts on travel and vacation packages, car and hotel packages and flight upgrades. American Airlines is one of the founding members of the Oneworld alliance, whose members provide service to 151 countries and 981 destinations internationally.
American Airlines was founded in 1930 and originally called American Airways. The airline was named American Airlines in 1934 when C.R. Smith became the company’s president. It was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1939. The original headquarters was located New York City, but it moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1979.
