Some family activities and tourist attractions in Corpus Christi, Texas, include the Texas State Aquarium, the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center and Whataburger Field. Whataburger Field is home to the Corpus Christi Hooks baseball team. Admission ranges up to $14 for those who want advance reservations and up to $6 for tickets on the day, as of 2015.
Whataburger Field is also a historic site of interest, being the former location of early 20th-century cotton warehouses. Some of the presses were recycled in the construction of the field's scoreboard. A 972-square-foot video board was installed for the 2014 season.
Being on the Gulf of Mexico, Corpus Christi is well situated for an aquarium. At the Texas State Aquarium, visitors can observe bottlenose dolphins from above and below the surface of their 400,000-gallon tank. Also exhibited at the aquarium are a variety of jellyfish, as well as otters, stingrays, marine flora, turtles, reptiles, sharks and even eagles.
Another attraction for wildlife enthusiasts is the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center. Within the 182-acre grounds of this site are a range of flora and fauna including orchids, roses and native wetland vegetation, along with hummingbirds, butterflies, parrots, iguanas and tortoises.
