Eastern Airlines was a major airline from 1927 to 1991, when it initially ceased operations. The re-formation of the airline was initiated in 2011. The new Eastern Airlines hub is at Miami International Airport. In December of 2014, the first of the airline's new fleet of planes, the Spirit of Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, arrived in Miami. The airline began actively recruiting pilots in mid-2014, and began hiring flight attendants later that same year.
The company also plans to have several shuttle service subsidiaries to aid with anticipated expansion. The company has also resumed operations in its former headquarters. The former Eastern Airlines faltered financially in the 1980s and 1990s. It was initially acquired by Texas Air, but an inflated fleet of aircraft and union disputes prevented the airline from being saved. The airline ultimately became a victim of the Gulf War, when reduced flight traffic made it impossible for the airline to re-gain financial footing.Learn more about Geography
