To figure out the Long Island Railroad schedule, visit the official MTA website, and navigate to All Train Schedules under Schedules & Fares. Select a destination or departure station, and choose the weekday or weekend and holidays schedule for either eastbound or westbound trains. Each schedule contains columns showing the departure and arrival times for trains leaving and arriving at the station listed at the top of the column, reading from left to right.
Each Long Island Railroad schedule includes morning services and afternoon and evening services and uses the 12-hour clock for train times. The Notes column indicates which services run at peak times and those services that only run during holidays. A single capital letter beside a train time offers a key to important service information; for example, a letter "A" means the train leaves from Platform A, and a letter "J" means you must change trains at the Jamaica station. The Reference Notes box on the top-right corner of the schedule explains the meanings of the various notes.
The MTA home page offers a trip planner to simplify trip planning. To plan a trip using the MTA trip planner, enter departure and destination stations and the date and time of travel, and check Rail. Press Submit to view suggested itineraries with train times and fares, and click Map beside each itinerary to view an interactive map of the trip.
