As of December 2014, the first and only officially recorded time that Miami, Fla. ever received snow was on Jan. 19, 1977. There were, however, unofficial reports of light snow in the area on Jan. 9, 2010.
The snow in 1977 came in the form of mere flurries, but it was big enough news to make headlines in both The Miami News and The Miami Herald. While the snow itself was considered nothing more than an interesting oddity, the cold weather that brought it caused a great deal of trouble for agriculture in the state that year. Damage was so severe that the Florida governor called a state of emergency.
