Earn miles through the MileagePlus program, previously called OnePass, by traveling on United Airlines flights or partner airlines; booking other travel, such as cruises, Amtrak trips, car rentals and hotel stays, with participating partner organizations; and shopping with MileagePlus credit cards. You can also earn points by making purchases and signing up for services with the program's partner offers. In some cases, you can earn miles through utility companies and financial services providers.
To earn points, MileagePlus members enter a program membership number when making reservations or at the time of purchase. To earn points using a MileagePlus credit card, enter a membership number when applying for the credit card or when setting up an online account. United Airlines periodically offers limited-time partner opportunities that help members earn additional points. Members can also purchase additional miles through the program and transfer miles to or from other members.
The OnePass mileage program was combined with the MileagePlus program when United Airlines merged with Continental Airlines in 2011. Members were allowed to transfer miles earned until December 31, 2011, from OnePass into the MileagePlus program during the transition, which began in 2010. Members with both accounts saw their OnePass miles automatically transferred to MileagePlus miles at the end of 2011.
