Dubai is a coastal city in the United Arab Emirates. It is located on the Arabian Peninsula and borders the Persian Gulf. Dubia is both the name of the city as well as the emirate, or principality, in which it is located.
Dubai is bordered by the emirate of Abu Dhabi on the south and the Sharjah emirate on the northeast. To the west is the Persian Gulf, while in the southeast, Dubai borders the Sultanate of Oman, another Arab country. Both the emirate and the city sit at sea level on the Persian Gulf. Due to its location within the Arabian Desert, Dubai has a desert climate despite its proximity to the Persian Gulf. In the summer, temperatures often exceed 100 degrees and are accompanied by extreme humidity.
The city of Dubai is known for its impressive architecture, luxury industries and tourism industry. According to a 2013 article in Forbes, Dubai was the seventh most-visited city in the world and also had the fastest-growing tourism industry. Visitors have their pick of tourism sites in Dubai, ranging from water parks and zoos to museums and mosques. Besides its historical sites and convenient beaches, Dubai has more than 70 shopping malls, including the largest shopping mall in the world.
