Dollywood Theme Park is located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Dollywood Parks Boulevard. As of 2015, Dollywood features cabins for guests to stay in, a resort and a water park in addition to the theme park.
Before the park became known as Dollywood, it was first a small attraction with a blacksmith shop, general store, saloon and coal-fired steam train. Opened in 1961 by the Robbins Brothers, that attraction lasted until 1970, then became Goldrush Junction under the ownership of Art Modell. In 1977, Herschend Enterprises bought Goldrush Junction, expanded it into a larger theme park and changed the name to Silver Dollar City. The park officially became Dollywood in 1986 after singer Dolly Parton became involved with Herschend Enterprises. As of 2015, Dollywood has 27 total rides and hosts approximately 3 million people every season.
